Geospatial Data Analysis

Geospatial data analysis has applicability in several areas, allowing for a deeper understanding of reality and various processes and phenomena in studies of geography, economics, medicine, ecology, urban planning, engineering, geology, agronomy, and other fields. Currently, there is a consensus in several areas of knowledge: in more than 90% of the analyses, the spatial component can be incorporated, increasing the analytical possibilities and facilitating the resolution of the studied problems.

There are currently several free geospatial data sources as well as several open-source platforms for analyzing this data. However, the ease of access may mask another critical problem: does the analyst possess the technical and conceptual capacity to interpret the phenomenon correctly?

This research line, therefore, has two objectives: (i) training UFMG undergraduate and graduate students to investigate and determine the best spatial analysis techniques for a given purpose; and (ii) effectively contributing to the development and implementation of spatial analysis in the fields of urban-territorial and environmental planning.
